چکیده

This paper deals with a new problem that is a generalization of the many to many pickup and delivery problem and which is motivated by operating self-service bike sharing systems. There is only one commodity, initially distributed among the vertices of a graph, and a capacitated single vehicle aims to redistribute the commodity in order to reach a target distribution. Each vertex can be visited several times and also can be used as a bu er in which the commodity is stored for a later visit. This problem is NP-hard, since it contains several NP-hard problems as special case (the TSP being maybe the most obvious one). Even nding a tractable exact formulation remains problematic. This paper presents e cient algorithms for solving instances of reasonable size, and contains several theoretical results related to these algorithms. A branch-and-cut algorithm is proposed for solving a relaxation of the problem. An upper bound of the optimal solution of the problem is obtained by a tabu search, which is based on some theoretical properties of the solution, once xed the sequence of the visited vertices. The possibility of using the information provided by the relaxation receives a special attention, both from a theoretical and practical point of view. It is proved that to build a feasible solution of the problem by using the one obtained by the relaxation is an NP-hard problem. Nevertheless, a tabu search initialized with the optimal solution of the relaxation often shows that it is the optimal one. The algorithms have been tested on a set of instances coming from the literature, proving their e ectiveness.

A Multi-commodity Pickup and Delivery Open-tour m-TSP Formulation for Bike Sharing Rebalancing Problem

Bike sharing systems (BSSs) offer a mobility service whereby public bikes, located at different stations across an urban area, are available for shared use. An important point is that the distribution of rides between stations is not uniformly distributed and certain stations fill up or empty over time. These empty and full stations lead to demand for bikes and return boxes that cannot be fulfi...

Free-Floating Bike Sharing: Solving Real-life Large-scale Static Rebalancing Problems Free-Floating Bike Sharing: Solving Real-life Large-scale Static Rebalancing Problems

Free-floating bike sharing (FFBS) is an innovative bike sharing model. FFBS saves on start-up cost, in comparison to stationbased bike sharing (SBBS), by avoiding construction of expensive docking stations and kiosk machines. FFBS prevents bike theft and offers significant opportunities for smart management by tracking bikes in real-time with built-in GPS. However, like SBBS, the success of FFB...

A Dynamic Approach to Rebalancing Bike-Sharing Systems

Bike-sharing services are flourishing in Smart Cities worldwide. They provide a low-cost and environment-friendly transportation alternative and help reduce traffic congestion. However, these new services are still under development, and several challenges need to be solved. A major problem is the management of rebalancing trucks in order to ensure that bikes and stalls in the docking stations ...

(Even) Smarter Tools for (Citi)Bike Sharing

As bike-share systems expand in urban areas, the wealth of publicly available data has drawn researchers to the novel operational challenges these systems face. The key challenge is to meet user demand for available bikes and docks by rebalancing the system. This paper addresses the optimization problems that arise from these efforts. In particular, we provide new models to guide truck routing ...

Rebalancing Dockless Bike Sharing Systems

Bike sharing provides an environment-friendly way for traveling and is booming all over the world. Yet, due to the high similarity of user travel patterns, the bike imbalance problem constantly occurs, especially for dockless bike sharing systems, causing significant impact on service quality and company revenue. Thus, it has become a critical task for bike sharing systems to resolve such imbal...
